Analysis of chromosomal abnormalities in testicular and epididymal spermatozoa from azoospermic ICSI patients by fluorescence in-situ hybridization

2003

BACKGROUND: An increased incidence of numerical chromosomal abnormalities has been reported in the ejaculated spermatozoa of infertile patients. However, there are few cytogenetic studies of testicular and epididymal spermatozoa, and their results are still controversial. METHODS: Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) analysis of chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X and Y was performed on seven testicular samples and two epididymal samples from patients with obstructive azoospermia (OA), and on 13 testicular samples from patients with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). Five ejaculated sperm samples from normozoospermic fertile donors were evaluated as a control group. RESULTS: Both epididymal sper…

Synthesis and in vitro antimicrobial activities of new (cyano-NNO-azoxy) pyrazole derivatives

2011

The antibacterial and antifungal activity of a series of products, in which the 1,5-dimethyl-4-(cyano- NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-3-yl and 1,3-dimethyl-4-(cyano-NNO-azoxy)pyrazol-5-yl moieties were linked to pyridine, pyrazole, isoxazole, thiophene and the furan ring, were examined. No molecule displayed activity against the Gram-negative bacteria tested. Conversely, some compounds displayed activity against two Staphylococcus aureus strains, including the methicillin resistant strain. All compounds displayed interesting antifungal activity, the most active compound of the series being the thiophene derivative 7a. This compound’s activity against Candida krusei and Candida glabrata (MIC = 0.25 and 0…

Ring transformation of furfural into an unusual bicyclic system: Characterisation and dynamic stereochemistry of 6,7-diethoxycarbonyl-6,7-diaza-8-oxa…

1997

Abstract 2-Formylthiophene and 3-formylindole react with diethyl azodicarboxylate to give simple products derived from reactions on the formyl group whereas 2-formylfuran reacts to give the unexpected bicyclic title compound. 1 H and 13 C NMR studies indicate that this compound undergoes a series of three dynamic conformational changes over the temperature range 50 to −90°C which are ascribed to slow rotation about the exocyclic carbamate bonds and hindered bridge inversion.

Mast Cells Infiltrating Inflamed or Transformed Gut Alternatively Sustain Mucosal Healing or Tumor Growth.

2015

Abstract Mast cells (MC) are immune cells located next to the intestinal epithelium with regulatory function in maintaining the homeostasis of the mucosal barrier. We have investigated MC activities in colon inflammation and cancer in mice either wild-type (WT) or MC-deficient (KitW-sh) reconstituted or not with bone marrow-derived MCs. Colitis was chemically induced with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS). Tumors were induced by administering azoxymethane (AOM) intraperitoneally before DSS. Following DSS withdrawal, KitW-sh mice showed reduced weight gain and impaired tissue repair compared with their WT littermates or KitW-sh mice reconstituted with bone marrow-derived MCs. MCs were localized i…

Posaconazole against Candida glabrata with Variable Susceptibility to Fluconazole

2008

We investigated the in vitro activities of posaconazole (POS), fluconazole (FLC), amphotericin B (AMB), and caspofungin (CAS) against four clinical isolates of Candida glabrata with various susceptibilities to FLC (FLC MICs ranging from 1.0 to >64 microg/ml). POS MICs ranged from 64 microg/ml; POS MIC of 0.5 microg/ml). FLC significantly reduced the kidney burden of mice infected with the S strain (P = 0.0070) but not of those infected with the S-DD and R strains. POS was significantly effective against all three isolates at reducing the kidney fungal burden with respect to the controls (P ranging from 0.0003 to 0.029). In conclusion, our data suggest that POS may be a useful option in the …
